A. Write promotional copy for WSU Press
- catalog copy
- fliers/ad copy
B. Meet with WSU Press Editor-in-Chief
- discuss qualities of a good university press manuscript
- discuss typical pitfalls found even in “good” manuscripts
- prepare a brief manuscript for critique by Editor-in-Chief
- discuss content development
- manuscript acquisition
C. Web vs. Print
- discuss various media & writing to fit the market
- meet with web team
II. Editing & Proofreading Element
A. Meet with Editorial Staff
- basic review of editorial styles & why we use certain styles
- discuss different levels of editing
· basic proofreading
· copy editing
· content editing
· proofing for print production
· proofing for the web
B. Hands-on Editing
- review completed proofs in Publications office
- proofing and editing parallel to the production process
- independent proofing
III. Other Aspects of Publishing
A. WSU Press Operations
- attend WSU Press staff meeting(s)
- overview of the publishing cycle for scholarly books
- job shadow each WSU Press department (marketing, production, fulfillment)
B. Printing Production
- meet with Printing Services staff
- content management as it relates to production
- estimation & scheduling
C.Customer Service/Relationships
- attend meetings/visitations with Director
- assist in developing publishing assessment for various campus units
- determining relationship between writers/content creators and the publisher
D. Copyright Issues
- meet with WSU’s Copyright Specialist
